GETTING YOUR POOL READY FOR SUMMER

It’s getting warmer and Summer is fast approaching. At this time of year, our thoughts turn to barbecues, parties, and maybe even some sunbathing. If you have an outdoor pool, now is the time to get it ready for the Summer! However, there are a number of different things to consider when preparing your pool, after all, it may have been left unused under a thick cover for some time now over the Winter.

PREPARE YOUR POOL AREA
The first thing you’ll want to do is make sure your pool area is nice and tidy. You don’t want to take the cover off, only for dirt and leaves to be blown straight into your pool! Take time to sweep around your pool and remove dirt and leaves. If you have one, using a leaf blower will make this much quicker. Also be sure to remove leaves and dirt from the top of your pool cover. Make sure to regularly clean your pool area, as keeping it tidy is a vital part of maintaining a beautiful outdoor pool.

TEST THE WATERS
Sometimes, over the Winter, the level of your pool can drop slightly. So, first things first, top up your pool if the level of the water is slightly low. Next, you’ll want to give your filter and your pump a good clean, and then turn them on. Cleaning your filter regularly is always important, but it is especially so when you’re getting your pool ready for use after the Winter. Now it’s time to take off the cover.

If you’re hoping to uncover your pool and see crystal clear water, you may be disappointed. It’s perfectly normal for the water in your pool to be less than pristine after the Winter. Keep your filter running and clean it every day until the water is clear.

At this stage, you need to do some chemistry. Making sure the chemicals in your pool are balanced is absolutely vital, and some recommend getting your water professionally tested. You should regularly test the water in your pool.

SPRING CLEANING
There will inevitably be some mess in your pool, so it’s time to get out your vacuum and your net. It’s worth giving your pool some care and attention now, as this will make maintenance over the coming months much easier. Remember to keep cleaning your filter on a daily basis. Another job is to clean your winter pool cover. This prevents the buildup of dirt, and if you do it now, it’s one less job to do when it comes around to putting it back on at the end of Summer. If possible, lay out your cover and wash it with soapy water, rinse and leave it to dry. It’s best to store your cover in a cool place in a large plastic container.

MAINTAIN AND ENJOY
Once again, make sure you keep on top of maintenance; clearing debris, checking the chemical levels of the water, and cleaning the filter. After that, all you have to do is enjoy your pool, and hope for a long and hot Summer.
