1. INFINITY POOL AT MARINA BAY SANDS RESORT, SINGAPORE

Infinity Pools typically provide swimmers with spectacular views whilst they contemplate and relax, and this pool is certainly no different. Overlooking the beautiful city of Singapore, you float high above the city giving you the sensation of flying.  Located on the rooftop of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel, 55 storeys up, the pool is 150 metres long and 1.2 metres deep. That’s three times the length of an Olympic Swimming pool. It is the largest outdoor pool in the world at that height. Architecturally, the pool itself is definitely a magnificent feat. Made from 422,000 pounds of stainless steel that holds a whopping 376,500 gallons of water, the pool rests on a series of movement joints that are designed to withstand the natural movement of the towers from the wind. The infinity pool also used a vanishing edge system where the water trickles off the edge, giving the impression of no boundaries, but being recycled and filtered before being pumped back into the pool.

2. GOLD ENERGY POOL AT ST REGIS IN LHASA, TIBET

Part of the Iridium Spa at the St Regis Lhasa hotel in Tibet, this luxurious pool has golden tiles creating a lavish and decadent feel. The use of underwater lights helps to make the pool glow a luscious golden colour, creating a marvellous visual spectacle and adding an essence of magic to this clear, pristine swimming pool. It is called an energy pool because it is filled with salt water heated between 28 and 32 degrees celsius that is supposed to relax and re-energise anyone who soaks within it.  The resort is located 12,000 ft above sea level in the world’s highest city, which is the Dalai Lama’s former home.

3. THE CAMBRIAN HOTEL AND SPA, ADELBODEN, SWITZERLAND

Just look at that view. Set amongst the breathtaking scenery of the Swiss Alps, the infinity pool at the spa at The Cambrian Hotel provides relaxation and tranquillity all year round. This thermal outdoor swimming (32°c) infinity pool overlooks the mountains and provides captivating views throughout the entire year, whether they are covered in crisp white snow or lush emerald grass. Both types of scenery are reflected in the pool’s water, giving the pool either a glowing green or crisp white reflectiveness. By creating a wide pool, with no shelter from the sky or scenery, this pool absorbs the colour of the environment around it, allowing it to look unique every single day.

4. THE LIBRARY, KOH SAMUI, THAILAND

The chilling yet equally beautiful effect of this pool is created by mosaic tiles of orange, yellow and blood red. The dark crimson tone creates an unusual but uniquely impressive sight that draws the eye, whilst offsetting the bright colours of the sea and beaches surrounding it. The pool is located just a few steps away from the white sandy beaches of the northeast coast of Koh Samui as part of The Library Hotel.

5. SAN ALFONSO DEL MAR SEAWATER POOL IN ALGARROBO, CHILE

San Alfonso del Mar in Algarrobo, Chile is a luxury beachfront resort that follows the coast for 1km. But the most extraordinary aspect of this resort is the swimming pool. Until recently, it held the Guinness World Record as the world’s largest crystalline water pool.

Until recently, it held the Guinness World Record as the world’s largest crystalline water pool. This lagoon is more than one kilometre in length, covers 20 acres and contains 250 million litres of filtered and treated seawater. The lagoon boasts advanced technology, which by collecting ocean water and keeping it in perfect condition, allows the water to be completely transparent and intensely turquoise in colour. The lagoon is so large that you can even go sailing on it!

The transparent, turquoise colour creates a feeling of unparalleled freedom and a look of paradise. Using seawater instead of chlorinated water combined with a 1km width gives swimmers the feeling that they are swimming in their own private ocean.

6. SKY POOL, LONDON

Designed to be located between the roofs of two ten story apartment blocks in London’s Nine Elms, this pool, which is currently in development, will allow residents to swim high above the bustling streets of Wandsworth. The 25 metre long pool will be made of 20 cm thick glass sheets and will leave swimmers exposed to whatever the British weather has to offer. The use of glass sheets instead of tiles or concrete will provide swimmers with a sense of weightlessness and freedom, very similar to that of an infinity pool. It is not known yet if this pool will be heated, but with the British weather being as unpredictable as it is, let’s hope so!
